Lactation Consultant

I’m Robin Snyder-Drummond, an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). I help families with any of their breastfeeding concerns. The best part of my job is knowing families can relax and enjoy their baby.

I’m located in Ellsworth, Maine.

My Background

For over twenty five years, I met with families during the childbearing year: in classes, at births, in homes. Over and over,  I saw how babies and parents are designed to be together.

Nature plans for success and you, as a healthy person, are an important part of that success.

My first inspiration was as a volunteer at the Women’s Needs clinic, part of the  Haight-Ashbury Free Medical Clinic. From there, I became a childbirth educator and DONA certified doula. After ten active years providing labor support, I focused on home visits for breastfeeding guidance. I could see that, especially in the early weeks, families need accurate, consistent information and realistic plans.

I begin with families wherever they are. I’ve taught in a high school, air force base, women’s shelter, several hospitals, a birth center, a lesbian moms group and presented workshops for healthcare colleagues. Education also includes informing legislators and advocating for breastfeeding positive policies.

I’ve provided lactation consultations through my private practice, an Early Intervention program, a Baby Cafe support group and for parents at hospitals.

Each situation is different, every family is it’s own universe. With patience and clear information, you can figure out what will work best for you.

What is an IBCLC?

An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant.

The IBCLC credential is the only internationally recognized accreditation for lactation consultants. Of the 14 other certifications for lactation education, the IBCLC is the most rigorous.

Qualifying for the IBCLC exam requires  college level courses, lactation specific education and up to 2,000 hours of supervised clinical experience (meeting mothers and babies one-on-one) then passing an international exam. I’ve been an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) since 2009.

I’m current in CPR certification and taught Infant, Child and Adult CPR for seven years.
